Barbara Metzger topped my list of "All Time Favorite Authors" a long time ago. She has the most delightfully wicked sense of humor! Each and every story in this collection has a beginning, middle and end without compromising the integrity of the story, whether it's a short story, novella or novel. Because of Ms. Metzger's amazing talent, she has no need to pad a story with graphic sex, vulgarities or repetition (YEA!). I'm not a purest and don't mind racy passages, but come one, some authors just go way too far. You won't find a cheap trick like that in Metzger's books. Her writing ability doesn't need it. The woman is a genius! A reader can get that nice warm fuzzy contented feeling without blushing. I can relate to her characters regardless of their "status" in society. She makes them all so "human." Really, if I could double the above 5 stars, I would. This is a book I will re-read many times. Just as I have most every Barbara Metzger book in my library.Product details

Greetings of the Season and Other Stories edition by Barbara Metzger Romance eBooks Reviews
A really cute, whimsical Christmas story about how the aging, dilapidated church is saved from being condemned and closed by the mousekins for Christmas.
The preacher wants to propose to marry his love but with his Church falling down around their very heads, he can't get parishioners or raise the money to save his Church and can't afford a wife. Though they try all they can to save the Church and their love, they're failing miserably!
There are some long time residents of the Church though that have been trying for years to show each new Preacher the hidden riches to be found that will save the Church. Unfortunately, they've never been able to get anyone to listen to them. They finally decide to take matters into their own hands to show everyone these hidden riches. Can they be successful though, since they are after all just the remaining mousekins.
A delightful Christmas tale of romance, Faith and Christmas miracles! A truly delightful, heartwarming and humorous story as only Barbara Metzger can write! Clean and a real page turner!
Enjoyed this Christmas collection. The characters were very likeable and real, not the usual simmering maidens on the hunt for a husband .What I liked most was the lack of groping in the dark and clothes falling off scenes that usually accompany romance stories. I highly recommend this collection and will be interested in reading other books by this author.
I was very pleased to see that these 5 short stories were brought together for the Christmas season. They are all delightful and all a bit different. The very best part is that they written by Ms. Metzger who has a delightful eye to the absurd. How can a perfectly normal beginning go so far astray? Or, how can the impossible work out? Or, as in the last story, do the animals really talk on Christmas eve? Suspend reality as you know it and enjoy these sweet stories. Somedays you just really need a happy ending. Or something sweet. Or both.
It was a lot of fun reading. Some stories I'd never read before. Excellent. I recommend any of Barbara Metzger's books.
One of THE best collections I've ever read. All really nice stories -- she makes no pretense, pretty much everyone gets a happy ending. BUT ... these stories aren't just love stories. They are HYSTERICAL. Funny funny funny dialogue. The stories aren't meant to be comedies ... but she's witty and each one was very different. I kept waiting to get bored (there are like 5 stories in there, none of them over-short) ... and honestly I think the best one was the last one!! Something different and a whole lot of fun!! I try to review most everything ... but I actually finished this and delved into my stuff un-reviewed JUST to review this one -- it was that much fun.
I like this author and like the fact that her stories are traditional Regency. These short stories aren't as good as some of her others and I really didn't like the last one 'Little Miracles' with the talking mice/animals. Still you can't go wrong with Ms Metzger, her stories are always good for a laugh and a nice hea, these with a Christmas theme
3.5 stars, some stories were "okay" and some were "likeable" so that's 3-4 stars = 3.5. These stories were clever, cute and a little bawdy - not as touching and heartfelt as the "Carla Kelly Christmas Collection" I just read. Barbara Metzger's comedic touch is light and funny, almost farcical at times, not unlike the master, Georgette Heyer (no one could be as good as Heyer, of course!). Some of the stories, particularly "Christmas Wish List", concerning a doting father trying to get a kitten from a lovely country miss as a Christmas gift for his little girl, almost veered into farce and started to bore me. The others were more enjoyable, I felt, with my favorite being "Little Miracles", told from the POV of poor church mice trying to save their home and love struck vicar - delightful! Recommended for fans of light, fun Regency Christmas stories.
