Worst Enemies/Best Friends Beacon Street Girls #1 Beacon Street Girls Annie Bryant 9780974658766 Books Reviews
This was an AWESOME book because it had really good characters. My favorite character was Avery because she wasn't really girly and she was really funny. THIS WAS AN AWESOME BOOK AND I CAN'T wait to read the other ones
I really like this book i actually like the whole series not only because it is good but because it is also relatable i would recommend this book to anybody
Bought for my granddaughter. She loves Annie Bryant.
thanks
I have read several of the Beacon Street Girls books.
First the Pros. The stories have a lot of humor. That's
a plus sign for me. Charlotte's table cloth and zipper
fiasco was really fun. And who hasn't had new kid on the block
fears at a new school. Charlotte is new to her own country as well.
And all the girls are different. Another plus for me. Unlike The Clique
this group have better interests than designer clothes and swapping insults.
Katani is interested in fashion, but likes to come up with her own ideas. These
are not princesses. Each one has her share of troubles-which is part of life.
The smaller characters add to the stories too. The patti-perfect Betsy. The
Queens of Mean. And popular Dillon.
Now for the Cons. I like the idea of a secret room in a old house. But.....the
telescope and Charlotte's fascination with the stars does not fit. The other
girls do not seem to share her interest. Also Avery's snake does not fit. If her mother
has allergies, why not a parakeet? Or a hamster? Or a turtle? No wonder the
cleaning lady refuses to clean the closet. Yipes!
Clearly, I'm not the target market for this book. ) However, I am an eclectic reader, and I got this one for free, so I thought I'd try it.
I was pleasantly surprised. It was well-written, with fully-realized characters. One of the characters in particular reminded me of a friend of my child's.
The story concerns Charlotte, a new kid in school. Charlotte has lived in different places around the world, and always has a disaster on her first day. She and her Dad are living back in America, and this is not just any first day, but the first day of Junior High...a challenge for anyone, whether you have a "first day curse" or not.
The book tells the story from different perspectives, although each chapter moves the story forward. We are told at the beginning of the chapter who is speaking, but the main friends are distinctly drawn, so you could figure it out quickly even without that.
There is a bit of a mystery, lunch room embarassments, building friendships, and talk about boys and girls...but nothing that would be inappropriate.
I'd recommend it, especially for girls who are going to be interested in reading about Junior High (even if they are a bit younger than that themselves).

While clearly adapted from a paper edition (there is a bookplate, even though you can't really interact with it), it has been well-designed for reading on the . It does have chapter marks, which means you can "flick right" on a 2 or DX and jump to the next chapter. It has an interactive Table of Contents. Other features include a Who's Who, trivia, and a vocabulary section (supposed written by the main character, and called a "Word Nerd Dictionary").
I downloaded this book for free on my . It's written for young teens, but it's very well written and unlike a lot of books of that genre, it doesn't patronize the reader. Characters that you will like, and enough intrigue that will keep you interested.
I would recommend this book for any age from 12 on up.
