It is not easy being the new girl in town...Especially an ingénue of life, with a heart of gold, who finally makes that quantum leap after her parents' death into a diving school/academy into a milieu of worldly women and bon vivants. A drop of alcohol has never passed the young main protagonist's lips, at least not until her arrival at the island; and she wants to save herself for the right man, coming from a traditional family background. Ultimately, she is met with censure and bewilderment from some of the locals, and the protagonist, Rhees, has got her hands full with the womanizing main male character who teaches scuba diving, Paul. Dodging his advances is not easy because he has the power to shift dive shop tasks around and reassign them on a whim when he feels slighted by one of the girls there, including Rhees.Rhees is determined to master this thing called scuba diving, which is way out of her comfort zone, and use her annuity funds wisely that were left to her when her father named her the sole beneficiary. A near miss out in the ocean turns pretty scary, and that's when the bantering dynamic between Rhees and Paul starts to change, for the better. In a tightly-knit community where everyone there knows everyone else's business, Rhees is like the proverbial frying pan into the fire, learning a great deal in a short time, about this thing called "life" and the "real world". Making it on her own is not going to be easy and I applauded her attempts to stick it out, especially in a little subculture rife with jealousy, rivalry, petty behavior from some of Paul's "groupies" and realizing that she has no family left back home and this is her best chance to do something big and amazing in the world.
At the risk of sounding cliché with the term "page turner" (for lack of a better word) Rivera has definitely taken fans of romance and fiction for a wild ride full of surprises; albeit one that is touching and memorable. I also liked the way the author handled the sexual innuendo with good taste and delicacy, considering the nature of some of the more rowdy characters on the island. The characters were complex yet believable and I was genuinely surprised what a good person Paul could be when he wanted to be. I think everyone who enjoys Book 1 will be excited for Book 2 as well just to see what fate has in store for Rhees as she has certainly done a lot of "growing up" in Part 1!

Rhees find herself at a diving school, tucked away on a Caribbean island. Pushing herself out of her comfort zone, after loosing both her parents.
Her relationship with the other island occupants was very sketchy, the girls were instantly threatened by her, the boys all wanted her.
Her first meeting with Paul who happens to be the owner of the Diving school did not go as smoothly as they both wished for, but she soon got on with things.
I really felt for Rhees, she was trying to accept her new normal. Life all alone, and even through she did not succumb to Paul's charms she did surprise just about everybody else.
Paul 'wanted' Rhees and did not stop his promiscuous lifestyle, but he certainly changed throughout their story.
The girls on the Island all had the hots for Paul, which was why they didn't like Rhees. He tried to punish her by giving her the horrible jobs around the school, but she was such a sweet girl, and just got on with it.
He endlessly pursued her, but she wasn't having anything to do with his pursuing. Even if she did secretly enjoy the attention she got from him.
When they became friends, Paul began to change his philandering ways, not that many people noticed, including his long time best friend Taylor.
I liked their closeness, they developed their friendship without all the drama of sex. It made them actually get to know each other.
Their friends around the island still disapprovingly of Rhees did finally began to warm to her, she dealt with some crap situations which developed her friendship with Tracey and Regina.
I hope they can make it; develop their friendship maybe take it to another level.
Paul became very protective of her, and I hope they can see a future together, although the cliff hanger doesn't hint much of a HEA.
Not your typical boy meets girl and live Happy Ever After, it appears they overcame some huge obstacles, but I think they have more to navigate if they are to work it out.
Its quite an addictive story, you are dragged into the book fairly quickly and don't want to not know what happens next.
Headed straight into book 2.
I'm not the best at writing reviews and usually only leave reviews for books I really like. This is a book I really liked! Wet was so fun to read and I loved the tropical environment and scuba diving aspect. So fun!
Rhees finds herself all alone in the big world. Not one to usually fit in, not even in her childhood home town, and sheltered her whole life, Rhees figures it's time to grow up and that if she can face her biggest fear then there's nothing she can't do. Which is how she finds herself face to face with the big bad ocean.
Paul, womanizer, sexy as hell, could give a crap about anyone or anything except his dive shop and scuba operation, has met his match. And apparently, the one woman on the entire island he can't have.
The two find themselves in a tailspin shortly after meeting. Add together a little misunderstanding with a wounded pride, and you're left with a big messy situation on one little island. Regardless of how much they're attracted to each other, neither is ready or willing to give the other what they want for very different reasons.
Rhees does have a lot of growing up to do. And Paul can be a prick, and has some growing up to do of his own, but I'm still rooting for these characters. This book is part of a series and I am eagerly awaiting part two! Great job to the author, S. Jackson Rivera!
